EVANS OPPOSES
PROPOSED BRANT LANDFILL

The Town of Evans opposed the proposed landfill in the Town of Brant for reasons including, but not limited to, the potential hazards associated with the leaching of toxins and other hazardous pollutants into the tributaries of Muddy Creek, which drains directly to Lake Erie. Lake Erie is a major source of dririking water for the Town of Evans and must be protected.

Beaches in the vicinity of Muddy Creek have already been closed due to serious water quality problems resulting from waste management problems in up stream areas. Any action that would potentially exacerbate poor water quality conditions in the area is opposed by the Town.

Furthermore, this landfill will generate increased amounts of truck traffic in the Cain Road area that would adversely impact the character of the surrounding community. The Town cannot afford to endure the short and long term negative effects of a landfill facility that will bring in more garbage and waste from areas outside of the Evans/Brant area and New York State.

History has clearly documented the poor track records of existing solid waste facilities and the adverse impacts to their supporting communities. We are not willing to take this chance and risk the public health and welfare of Evans residents.
