Residents Of The Town of Brant:
There have been concerns raised over the establishment of a Solid Waste Management FacIlity in the Town of Brant. Many people assume the worst when talking about a landfill. I would like to address the issues and make people aware of the many positive attributes involved with bringing a Solid Waste Management Facility (SWMF) to the Town of Brant.
New York State has the most stringent environmental regulations in the United States for the siting, design, operation, and financial guarantees of a Solid Waste Management Facility. All of these are in place to protect the community. Anyone wishing to know what the requirements and safeguards, to which NYSDEC requires compliance, may find them at http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/regs/360.htm
Our claim to the Town is that we can SAFELY establish and operate a SWMF that can provide substantial Tax relief, employment, upgrades in services to the community, and improve the infrastructure of Brant.
It WILL NOT: Cause Pollution, Reduce Property Values, Be an Eyesore, or Have Vermin.
This Facility WILL NOT receive Hazardous, Radioactive, or Medical waste.
This Is What A Solid Waste Management Facility WILL DO For The Town of Brant. Every Year It Will:
Pay Rotalty income on all tonnage, the amount at 80% of capacity is | $ 3,900,000.00 |
Employ 70 full-time employees | $ 2,800,000.00 |
Have 40 part-time positions, seasonal construction | $ 1,200,000.00 |
Reduce electrical costs approximately $40 per month for 1,500 households | $ 720,000.00 |
Waste Disposal $30 per month per household | $ 540,000.00 |
Total Positive Economic Impact to the Town per year | $ 8,140,000.00 |
Total Positive Economic Impact to the surrounding area | $ 24,420,000.00 |
At the August board meeting of the Town of Brant, a resolution was passed by the Town council establishing an "Evaluation Committee" for the proposed Solid Waste Management Facility. This was passed with the understanding that there will be a factual and technical evaluation of the safety and appropriateness of this type of project.
In the interest of the orderly and accurate dissemination of all the data, the following schedule and agenda for the Evaluation Committee was requested by me, and agreed to by the Town Supervisor. The first meeting is scheduled for September 12th at 7:00pm at the Brant Town Hall.
When Considering a project that has the strength to eliminate all property taxes in the town. Assist in providing water and sewer service to the entire Town, and produce electricity for Brant and the surrounding communities, one would think an analysis in detail and not a quick presentation is in order. With two groups in disagreement; one is saying just look at this and make up your mind, and the other is saying examine all the permanent information. Who is taking the most honest approach to have you make the determination as to the real accuracy of the statements?
The Town Board has provided the opportunity for this project to be evaluated in an orderly and evenhanded manner. Some residents of the Town do not favor an in-depth and detailed presentation, why? Those who oppose our project have posted a web site at http://nobrantfill.freeservers.com and cite the studies of G. Fred Lee & Associates to show problems at various landfills. The advice of G. Fred Lee & Associates who's opinions they would use to convince others that a SWMF is not appropriate for Brant is, if a community wishes to avoid problems with landfills a non invasive double composite liner with leachate collection and detection should be used. also active gas collection and the facility should have perpetual care closure funding guaraties.
ALL these are in the proposal to the Town; most of the safeguards recommended are in NYSDEC regulations. We would ask all Town residents, whether they favor or oppose the project, to consider carefully all the FACTS.
The Town Board has taken a courageous stand in forming the Evaluation Committee, some would have them reject this project out-of-hand, no matter what the benefits for Town. A complete proposal and more information are available at our web http://www.Envsol-inc.com\BrantLF.htm I urge all the residents of Brant to carefully calmly evaluate this opportunity.
