Editor, The Sun:
Several years ago I was involved with a group that helped stop a huge garbage dump/landfill planned for the Town of Evans. "Stop the Dump" was successful in preventing the placement of a real eyesore in our town.
It has been brought to my attention that another garbage company is again trying to move into this area, this time in Brant. They have quietly been approaching landowners regarding their property.
I hope people will again be aware of the potential hazards a dump will cause. Not only will there be increased traffic, but Lake Erie is much too close to have toxins leeching into it. We really need to think about our future.
The last time around, we found out that the landfill/dump would be receiving garbage from four other states (including New Jersey) and tractor trailers would be delivering trash around the clock.
I hope the Town of Brant will consider the long-term effects of waste being brought into their town, and I hope the Town of Evans and the Village of Farnham will also have some input as to how it will affect their area, their highways and the water we drink.
